Chapter 25: Jackson Captures Harper’s Ferry
Lee’s first move is against Harper’s Ferry, site of John Brown’s 1859 raid on the U.S. Arsenal. As so often he takes the risk of dividing his 55,000 troops in two, sending Jackson’s II Corps with 23,000 to bombard the town from the Maryland Heights. After three days and over 12,000 Blue casualties, the Union capitulates.
