Still the bloodshed continues unabated. The loss of three forts prompts now ex-Senator David Livingston to lead 300 troops into Osawatomie on August 26, killing John Brown’s son, Frederick, before wreaking havoc on the town.

Two weeks later General John Geary arrives as the third Territorial Governor. Standing 6’6” tall and weighing 260 lbs., he is a hero of the Mexican War, the first Mayor of San Francisco and a believer in Pop Sov. His iron-fisted rule over the next six months will make Osawatomie the last major battle in Kansas.
