Chapter 132: Threats of assassination lead to an awkward entry into DC.

Lincoln’s two security guards, Alan Pinkerton and Ward Lamon, convince him of plots to assassinate him when his train stops in Baltimore en route to DC.

On February 22 he speaks in Harrisburg before disguising himself in a brown felt cap and cloak and boarding an overnight sleeper car into Baltimore. He switches to a B&O car at 4:15am and is met two hours later in the capital by his friend, Elihu Washburn.

While the deception works, the press soundly mocks the arrival.
