Chapter 102: John Brown prepares to invade Virginia.

After two and a half years since his infamous Potawatomie Massacre, Brown is ready to make good on his plan to capture Harper’s Ferry, Virginia, and lead a slave rebellion against local plantation owners.

He has outlined the general plan with his primary donor, the “Secret Six” men in the East, led by abolitionist Gerrit Smith. He has also discussed it in mid-August 1859 with Frederick Douglas, who refuses to be recruited and warns Brown that he is sure to be killed.

He has also written a Provisional Constitution and recruited and trained a combat force of twenty-two men, 17 White and 5 Blacks.
