Chapter 34: The Republic of Texas opens more land for slavery.

Following a Spanish Crown grant of 4400 acres of land in the Tejas province to mining engineer Moses Austin, his son Stephen A. Austin and 300 Anglo settlers migrate there by 1825. Along with them come their enslaved labors, who remain despite the new Mexican government’s ban on slavery. Antagonism toward the intruders turns into violence and the successful Siege of Bexar leading in 1836 to their declaration of independence as The Republic of Texas.
