Chapter 122: Both Congressional Compromises lose support. 

A fourth meeting of the Senate’s Committee of 13 ends with this summary on the Crittenden Compromise from Robert Toombs on December 28:

Resolved, that this Committee has not been able to agree upon any plan of general
adjustment and (will) report that fact to the Senate, together with the journal of
the Committee, and ask to be discharged.

A day later, the Henry Winter Davis version actually passes by a 12-10 vote and Chairman Thomas Corwin promises to present it to the full House. But the southern members have resigned by the time it is ready.
