Section #1 - Lincoln’s Long Journey Home to Racial Equality
Chapter 9: Abe Returns Home Feeling Like a Failure
When Lincoln’s single term ends in 1849, he is disappointed with his showing and convinced that his political career is over.
Along with his family he heads back to Springfield and the home on 8th Street that he purchases for $1400 in 1844.
For the next six years he leads a contented life, surrounded by friends, welcoming sons Willie and Tad, and riding the Illinois circuit as a practicing lawyer.
