Supporting Teachers

Our goal is to provide teachers with materials that help them excite student interest in history by connecting past events in the 1619-1865 era to issues on their minds today. Our online Toolkit begins with a series of Bell Ringer ideas to open your classes, followed by Topical Catalysts that enhance each day’s main curriculum topic. Support for Document Based Questions (DBQ’s) include two options. First a range of verbatim source document texts for students to read accompanied by provocative questions to answer. Second by a unique private collection of some 3,000 original 19th century photographs to examine and discuss. Finally comes an inventory of historical Maps and engaging InfoGraphics to help students visualize the history and internalize it.
