Grace Greenwood is the pen name of Sara Jane Lippincott. Born in 1823, by the age of 21 she is already writing poetry and political commentary for The Saturday Evening Post and other publications. She is a feminist and an anti-slavery advocate, recording a number of breakthroughs: the first female reporter for The New York Times; first to be seated in the Congressional gallery; first to author a Children’s magazine. Before her death in 1904 she is a member of the New York literary elite.
