Meserve Lincoln in white suit

This photo of a beardless Lincoln in a white linen suit was taken by Abraham Byers in Beardstown, IL. in 1858, around the time of his famous debates with Stephen Douglas. This shot comes from the Frederick Meserve’s collection of photos he reproduced from his own original images. Over 100 of these appear in his 1944 publication The Photographs of Abraham Lincoln. The number “7” on the back (O-7) is in Meserve’s hand.
