Britain defeats the Zulu tribe in 1879 after bloody battles at Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, the latter dramatized in the 1964 movie, Zulu. Eshowe became the capital when Britain annexed Zululand in 1887. Note the British flag flying at the encampment.
