Ford’s Theater Stereo

Originally a Baptist Church meeting house, theater manager John Ford buys the three story structure (on the left) in 1861. It becomes a popular playhouse, with President Lincoln attending on many occasions, including a November 1863 production of The Marble Heart starring John Wilkes Booth. On April 14, 1865, the Confederate Booth shoots the President during the comedy, Our American Cousin. Lincoln dies the next morning across the street at the Peterson house.
