Chapter 27: The 1860 Election

After debating and losing to Douglas in the 1858 Illinois Senate campaign, Lincoln wins a four man race against Douglas, Breckinridge and Bell in 1860. While securing only 39.8% of the popular vote, and none in the South, his success traces to dominance of the Electoral College votes in the North.
